My friend switched over to FP but the litter does not last very long.  She only has one cat but we have to change litter twice a week.  Has anybody else had this experience with the FP litter (original one).  I’m thinking of switching to the clumping type but would like some feedback first.  For those of you who have switched to the clumping type, are you using less now or same amount?

I haven’t used the clumping variety, my kitties are perfectly happy with the original. But I’ve got to ask… why on earth do you have to change out the litter that fast?!? I have two cats and I only need to change it out ~every two weeks.

It doesn’t work quite like other litters, so make sure you’re following the directions. I’ts SUPPOSED to break down into sawdust, just scoop the poop as normal and shake the box a bit so the fresh pellets stay on top. You may not have to do that as much if her cat is a big digger like mine are. You really only need an inch or so at the bottom, so unless you’re using a super mega-sized litterbox, you won’t need to use the whole 7lb bag at once. I’d try looking for the pellets in a superstore like Wal Mart or Target, where it’s cheaper, and give them another try… assuming you’ve used up all of your supply already.

Some people and cats prefer the clumping variety, that’s why it’s out there. We’ll have to wait for more input from the clumpers to see if they think it lasts any longer. Either way, let us know how it works out for you.

Hi - I have been using the product for some time now. What I did do to see if it would last longer was get one of the double decker litter boxes (sifter on top). A little pricey, but I feel it was worth it. I just sift when litter is used, goes to bottom tray, and 2-3 times a week empty that tray out. Scoop solids out and good to go.  The litter lasts longer as the used stuff separates from the unused.  Minimal cleanup (at least with my two cats) Great!
I love the fact that there is no odor (ammonia!). I think it the best litter I have tried yet, and do not have plans on changing.

I do not have the sifter box Janet uses, but my two cats are happy with the original FP and I only change out the box every two weeks.  I think the sifter box would be great to have because it seems more economical.  The reason I use the original FP is that I can dump it in the wooded area on my property.  I feel like I am recycling the sawdust.  Sorry I cannot comment on the clumping product; for me it is all about recyclability and the clumping product “seems” like it may not break down like the original product.
