Hello Everyone:

Just adopted an abandoned two-year Persian from the Rescue.  She is basically in good health.  I noticed a small amount of blood in the stool yesterday.  It was the first time.  References indicate I should not worry about it, since it may be a mild irritation in the lining.  She eats, sleeps, and plays well.

If you have anything to offer regarding this symptom or helpful herbal remedies to soothe her, please let me know.  I realize that darker-colored vestiges are warning signs; however, that is not evident at this time.  Right now, I just want to boost the healing process.

Thanks for any valuable feline wisdom.

Fresh blood in the stool is seen with large bowel issues (colitis).  Dietary changes, intestinal inflammation and parasites are among some of the causes of colitis in cats.  Although I practice traditional and complementary medicine (including Traditional Chinese Medicine and herbology), I cannot recommend an herbal preparation for your kitty.

If the fresh blood in the stool continues, I recommend that she be seen by a veterinarian.
