Does anyone have a cat that licks things?  Herman licks everything.  He particularly likes licking paper.  He likes licking people.  He also has the scratchiest tongue I have ever felt on a cat.  He licks me to wake me up in the morning, he licks my legs when I hop out of the shower.  He just licks!  The paper thing is a little weird.  I can understand that he might “wash” me, but I wonder why he likes to lick paper?

That’s kind of weird. never heard of a cat that likes to lick paper. A strange obsession maybe?? Maybe he just thinks it tastes good smile

My cat Peanut loves to lick things too. First and foremost, she loves to give her mommy and daddy “kitty kisses.” Unfortunately daddy isn’t all that fond of scratchy kitty tongues! She loves to groom her littermate brother, who will occasionally decide to return the favour. Other than that, she’s been known to lick paper, plastic, cardboard, the coffee table, and just about anything at least once… to see if is worth a second lick! But she loves giving her mommy kitty kisses the most! *grins*

She’s also especially fond of chewing on things. She LOVES straws, but thankfully she usually waits for us to finish our drinks before she jumps in to attack them! I’ve bought her flavoured pet chew sticks, but she just gives them a passing sniff and stalks off. She’s also fond of runaway twist-ties, and anything with a piece of tacky tape on it. I thought cats didn’t like sticky? Her brother Mooshu on the other hand LOVES chewing on pieces of Pressn’Seal wrap that have magically found their way out of the trash. We make sure both our cats have plenty of grabby toys: stringy and crinkly mice and rings and such, but unless they’re fully charged with catnip, they really don’t seem to care… twist ties and milk caps and used platic wrap are so much cooler! *sigh* Needless to say, they keep us on our toes!

Ok Charlene . . . our cats would be friends.  Herman loves straws too!  He totally decided to play with them on his own, and he recognizes them in our cups right away.  I always have to keep my cups up high until I’m done, because otherwise he’ll knock it over and pull the straw out.  So weird!  It cracks me up when he comes trotting in with a straw in his mouth.

I think so! We’d just have to keep enough straws around for the two of them!

Thankfully Peanut typically waits till she thinks we’re done before she attacks our straws. And she only seems to like them when they’re sticking up out of the glass! she looses interest shortly after they go all horizontal on her. She does like pens and pencaps though. She’ll bat them around for a little while then start gnawing away. And don’t get me started on the milk caps!
