My kitty Muddy Mud Skipper was diagnosed with heart failure this past fall.  I thought I was going to lose him. He has made amazing progress thanks to some great vets and medication.  He orginally was on about 4 different medications twice a day.  He’s now down to two and only 1/2 tablets once a day.  I’m hoping he can get off the lasix medication.  The poor little guy needs to use the litter box many more times because of this heart medication.  I’m going through bags of litter very quickly and it’s frustrating to me.  I recently purchased a big bag from PetCo on the 31st of January.  Well two weeks ago it was gone.  So that bag almost lasted me a month!  I leave about an inch in the bottom of the pan and then about an inch on the top - I have to clean out the bottom every other day and of course replenish the top.  Any one else have this same challenge?

I’m so happy to hear that Muddy Mud Skipper is getting so much better.  It is always so hard to deal with disease, especially with a pet that is like family.  I hope the best for you and Muddy Mud Skipper. =)

I’m sorry your kitty is sick!  That’s must be rough to have to clean out the box and replenish so much---it just adds to the cost of keeping up with a sick animal.  Hang in there!

I use feline pine pellets also, and love them.  With 11 huge cats, we use a lot of litter and when using the pine on the upper tray and lower tray, it adds up quickly.  I went to lining the lower level with two layers of newspaper.  Place just a small amouth of pellets over the paper.  I change the newspapers daily, It has been a life saver on our budget.

We have went from 160# of scoopable clay to under 80 lb of pellets per month.  Our garbage is now about 3 bags less a week.  When you have to pay your garbage fees by weight this is a big savings in itself. 

Forgot to mention, all our cats are on SO because of crystal problems and they urinate at least twice as much as a normal cat.

I have a cat rescue organization and I usually have 30-40 cats.  I’ve used Feline Pine for several years now and it works great with multiple cat environments.  About 7 yrs. ago I designed my own sifting litter boxes so I’m not familiar with Feline Pines boxes because they came later, but the idea is the same I’m sure.  I fill my top perferated tray with litter, and line the bottom solid tray with a garbage bag. I have a trash can that lets the perferated tray sit right on top of the can so that nothing can escape.  Twice a day I put the perferated tray on top of the trash can and shake, shake, shake!  The sawdust and wet stuff falls into the trash can and of course the pellets come to the top.  So I always have clean litter, waste very little, and the bottom tray of the litter box then collects only about half of the waste.  Most of the waste is in the garbage can which goes out of my house and straight to the dumpster. The best part about Feline Pine for me is that even with 30-40 cats at a time, there is virtually no tracking of litter outside the boxes.  I love it!

Since your cat is taking medication,it will use the litter box more often that it does normally.It will be better if you can change the litter box so that it will be much better for your pet’s health.

I use the feline pine clumping litter with my little fur balls. My kitties seem to like it better and I think it lasts longer. But to be honest I completely change their boxes every week as a habit.
