Our cat Memeow was one of the cats poisoned by the IAMS food, since we nursed him back to health, he won’t touch wet food. I brought him Wellness brand dry on recommendation from a co-worker and he loves it. He also gets Chicken baby food, yes that’s right. It’s real chicken and cheaper than cat food. He turns his nose up to any other wet. He had a hard time with the poisoning. He had surgery and everything and do you think IAMS would do anything, no. Even though my vet backed me 100% and i had the food at home, they did nothing:(

My older cat and renal failuew

I have an older cat, 8+, who grew up on raw hamburger; not exclusively. Now on occasion he gets raw beef tips, deli sliced chicken and turkey, Sheba chicken, and crunchy Purina Healthful life. His “girl” age 7+ primarily eats Fancy Feast Ocean Fish and the Healthful Life. Now we have the 5 mo old who is a monster(huge feet on that boy)(part Siamese part Maine coon) who eats 4 little cans of food a day. They all like canned tuna. One recently brought me a big mouse that I have yet to find and I am hoping they will find it and kill it.(peanut butter on the “better mouse trap” has not yet done it’s job). And we have been brought ground squirrels, birds and baby rabbits. oh, and lizards.

My older cat, Butty, had his annual vet visit. At his age they do the blood test thing. They called and said he had a point something elevation result in the part that indicates the beginning of renal failure but not to worry as it was not that much elevated over the normal range. Ok, so I hear “renal failure” and block out all other words being said. So I go out without doing any research and buy that urinary tract dry food. And because the monster “Tibbit” is eating me out of cat food I decided to put them all on just dry food. Then I read the forum about cat food and see that I should do the canned food again. Can I use the dry food as bird food?

Guess I will have to go online for the Wellness and others mentioned as we do not have a pet food store in our town, and Walmart? forgetaboutit.

I bought the Feline Pine from Walgreens and am impressed and will use it in all my cat boxes now. So I went online and have found so many wonderful posts to the forums, very informative.

So, if Ms. Michele would kindly take it upon her knowledge and let me know what I should do to keep Butty healthy I would appreciate it. I had my DW for 19 years and he finally succumbed to congestive heart failure. I fed him cooked chicken, raw beef, canned food, dry food, combos, tuna and lots of love.

Kudos to all you cat lovers,
Prepared food… wet vs dry?

Since my massive kitty is getting a little TOO massive and his sister can do with some shrinking as well, I’ve been trying to put them both on a diet. Between that and all the mess that’s been happening with pet foods this past year, I’ve been looking up info on different cat foods to check out our options.

When I was little my first cat was exceptionally finicky and was on an ~exclusively canned food diet which eventually led to dental problems in her old old age (~20). So we fed all successive kitties a varying mix of wet and dry. My current brood were weaned on dry and are never interested in people food, so I’ve been feeding them primarily dry, with an occasional can of cat food or people tuna thrown in as a treat. In my whirlwind of web searching I’ve seen a lot of controversy on dry food, from how it’s way too fattening, to calling it bad and shouldn’t be given to cats. Colour me confused.

Because if not, I may start feeding my cat raw meat! What is wrong with these companies, putting apricots in carnivore meals? They are crazy! Carnivore’s do not eat cheese, potatoes, barries, fruit, or veggies. So why are we feeding out house hold carnivores these products? Please help!

Herman isn’t really ever interested in anything other than his kitty food or his cat treats (I’m trying to teach him the word ‘treat’). I bought tartar control treats, but they don’t work very well when your cat wolfs them down without chewing. Haha. I gave him a bit of milk once or twice, but that led to poop problems, so no more of that! He always watches us make food and eat dinner, but he’s really not interested in people food. I had a trash cat who was a stray who came to live with us and he loved people food, especially peas and lettuce.

Small amounts of chicken breast or turkey breast is a good lean source of protein for your cat. make sure there are no sauces or seasonings on them. Give them a piece, theyll love you for it!
