One of my two cats occasionally poop on the ceremic floor outside the litter box (litter box located in one of the bathrooms). We started using Feline Pine 2 years ago and about a few months into the introduction of Feline Pine, one of the cats started to poop outside the litter box. For a while, he did every day (he would still urinate in the litter box though). The other cat doesn’t have this issue. Then we started to clean the litter box more often (twice a day), the out-of-box incident reduced dramatically. How do we interpret this? It is just because the problem cat is more obsessive with cleanliness?

Thanks

I just love the feline pine for my cats litter box as I have asthma and other litters tend to bother me.my question is should a cat vomit when she eats really fast and does not chew? my cat is 4 yrs old and was dropped off at my home when about 4-6 wks my vet guessed.she has always done this occassionaly since she came here.
when she did this as a kitty,I suspected it was because she had not eaten regularly before she came to me.any ideas?thanks

Thank you Eileen for asking that question. My other cat has the same problem - occasional vomitting after eating (certain foods tend to make him vomit than others, but he does that occasionally with even regular dry cat food).

Sindy— I’m glad that the cat box problem is a thing of the past in your home.

There are some persnickety cats out there who will only use a very, very clean cat box.  Others are a bit more forgiving.

Having one more cat box that there are cats in the home and being scrupulous about cleaning the boxes (once or twice daily) typically does the trick.

Eileen—It’s important to distinguish between regurgitation (which occurs shortly after eating and is non-digested food) and vomiting (can occur hours after eating and the food is digested).

If you are feeding a dry food exclusive diet, I’d recommend also beginning some canned food.  There are multiple benefits to canned food (more moisture, generally fewer carbohydrates—although not always the case, etc.)

What you want to do is slow down the eating.  If you are feeding dry food, I recommend placing a ball in the bowl, so that the kitty has to eat around it.  You can also put some of the ration in a Kitty Kong, so that your cat “works” for the food.  Some veterinarians also recommend placing the food in smaller muffin tins, although most cats don’t like their whiskers touching the sides of a bowl.

If you are feeding canned food, you can still use the same strategy and place the food around a ball.  I’ve also had clients who have put a flower pot upside down on a large dish and place the food around it.

Try these tips and see if they help the situation.  If not, please write back and we’ll help as we can.  Michele Gaspar, DVM, DABVP (Feline)

I just love feline pine but my cat don’t. After using feline pine for about a year, my cat start using my bed, pillows to urinal. I change back to the old litter and everything stop. Due to the dust in the old I need to find a soft litter any suggestion.

If you kitty prefers a scoopable product, I’d go back and try the Feline Pine scoopable product again.

How did you take care of the cat box?  Daily scoopings of wastes?  Weekly cleaning of the box?  Covered or uncovered boxes (and how many boxes did you have)?

Thank you!
I have 2 pans and I clean them twice a day(am and pm). I will try the feline line scoop.
Thanks again
